ABOUT US

Reliable Tyres, WOF & Auto Servicing

Tyres in Napier

Motordrome had its beginnings in the early 70s when Basil Le Prou opened a small tyre service and retread plant in Hastings. The company grew to be one of the largest independent tyre companies in NZ, with eight tyre centres and three retreading factories throughout the lower North Island. In 1987, Basil wanted a new direction in life, so he sold the company to the Gorson Group from Gisborne. They, in turn, sold off the branches to various individual owners.

In 1991, Basil's family – including current managing director Lester Colville-Smith and long-serving staff member and current Hastings branch manager Alan Wright – purchased back the Hastings Tyre Service and Retread Factory and opened branches in Masterton and Napier, which is now managed by Basil’s grandson Wade Colville-Smith.

With the decline in retreading, Motordrome looked for complementary services to include with its tyre activities and decided to branch into mechanical servicing, WOF testing and batteries, joining with the AA to form Motordrome Tyre and Auto Services as it remains today, a complete one-stop shop providing customers with all their automotive needs.

What Our Customers Say About Us

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where are you located and what are your opening hours?

We have two Hawke's Bay branches: Hastings on the corner of Miller and St Aubyn Streets, and Napier at 114 Raffles Street. Both branches are open Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am to 12:00pm. We're closed Sundays.

Do I need to book, or can I just walk in?

For services like WOF inspections, full vehicle servicing and tyre fitting, we recommend booking ahead so we can guarantee a time that suits you. For quick jobs like free battery tests, free tyre pressure checks, puncture repairs and tread inspections, you're welcome to walk in any time.

What happens if my car fails its WOF?

If your vehicle fails its WOF, we'll give you a clear report on what needs fixing. You have 28 days to complete the repairs and return for a free re-inspection. Most WOF fail items, like brakes, tyres, lights, wipers and suspension, can be repaired on-site at either branch, so you can often get everything sorted in one visit.

How often should I service my car?

For most vehicles we recommend a full service every 10,000km or every six months, whichever comes first. Regular servicing catches issues early, keeps your warranty intact, and helps your vehicle pass its WOF first time. We service all makes and models including petrol, diesel, hybrid and European vehicles.
